Frequently Asked Wii U Questions

Okay, so we all have some questions about the next Nintendo console that comes out in 2012, the Wii U. While some answers aren’t solid (Nintendo is still nailing out the kinks in the manufacturing process), here are the most constantly asked questions and the answers we’ve found.

Will the Wii U be better than the PS3 or Xbox 360?

Most likely, it will have graphics on an equal level, perhaps slightly better. Wii did not have HD graphics, so this is one way for Nintendo to catch up to the previous consoles. They have worked on their internet system, but it will be closed networks for each game (meaning you have an online account on each game network, rather than one account with all game companies interacting with it).

While this means the Live/PSN systems may be better, the graphics and processing speed should be equal or better than. The seller for the Wii U, though, is the controller. Already, developers have talked about how excited they are to make games for the Wii U.

In short: probably not in software, but in hardware.

Why is the Wii U controller so special?

It is said that the Wii U controller will add a new dimension to gaming that we haven’t seen before. Yes, we’ve had two screens with the DS before, but having the screens independent of each other is something else entirely. The controller has a touch screen as well as analog and trigger buttons, allowing hardcore gamers to get more into the feel. The screen can be used without the TV on, meaning you can have a family or friend watching their shows while you game on your Wii U.

Another awesome thing about the touchscreen controller is demonstrated in the new Zelda. Your inventory is visible at all times via the controller, meaning you can switch weapons easily. For games like golf, the controller can be the tee, while the WiiMote can be the club.

In short: the screen and sensors.

Can you use multiple Wii U controllers at once?

Nope. Well, that’s the consensus at Nintendo at the moment, but there has been some talk about changing this. Since the controller will cost so much, it would be pointless to buy a second, and it will take a lot of power for a Wii U console to run multiple controllers at once. But you can use four WiiMote controllers as well as a Wii U controller. The Wii U would have a separate role from the WiiMotes. In the trailer, they demonstrated a flying game, where the pilot had the Wii U controller for navigation, while the multi-players used WiiMotes as weapons.

Also, Nintendo has said they probably won’t even sell individual Wii U controllers in the market.

In short: nope. Up to 4 WiiMote controllers and 1 Wii U controller.

How much will it cost?

Way more than the Nintendo Wii, that’s for sure. The original Wii cost $250, but that one didn’t have HDMI or expensive controller. These little things add up, meaning the Wii U will probably cost between $300-500 at release.

When will the Wii U release?

Sometime in 2012, probably around November.
